Name |
Amos Staples |

Abt 1814 |
Connecticut, United States [1, 2, 9] |
- His age was about 40 in 1849 in Marlborough VRs (Barbour), so he was born as early as 1809.

- age 20-30, 1 son under 5, wife. There's also a James Miller (70-80) and a Stephen Staples (Septimius?), age 50-60, on the same page. Also Joseph Staples, age 50-60 on image 5.

Alternate Name |
1840 [12] |
Amos Stapler |
Occupation |
blacksmith [1, 2, 4, 7, 9] |
Residence |
1853 |
Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut, United States [7] |
Address: 28 Potter Street |
- There is an Amos Staples in Hartford in 1853 along with George M., both blacksmiths. There is also a Joseph located around the corner who was a filesmith. I'm wondering if this is Amos, son of Able and Cynthia, and 2 of his sons (this scenario is now doubtful. It appears that Amos, son of Abel and Cynthia removed to Vermont with some of his brothers [9 Jan 2018]). Or is this Amos and 2 of his brothers? It seems awful coincidental that there are 2 Amos' who are blacksmiths as well as George M.s as sons/brothers.
There is no Amos at this address in 1852 or 1854. Joseph lived nearby until 1854. Joseph was apparently born in England so probably no relation.

- Lucy was a widow in 1880, living with her daughter, Mary. Find-a-grave record is nothing more than a place marker.

Notes |
- I've come to this conclusion for the existence of this family using the following evidence:
1. The 1860 census has Septimius living in the household of William Wier and his wife Emily. The assumption would be that Septimius is probably Emily's father.
2. Emily had a son George M. Weir/Wier, probably named for George Martin Staples, her probable brother and a daughter Lucy M. perhaps named for Lucy Miller, wife of her other probable brother, Amos Staples. She had another daughter named Susan, probably named for her mother.
3. Amos Staples is living in the same house as George Martin Staples in 1853 in Hartford, both blacksmiths. Amos Staples had a son named George M. Staples and a daughter named Ellen, and another daughter named Sarah.
4. George Martin Staples named one of his daughters Emily and another daughter Ellen.
5. Louisa/Laura had a daughter named Ellen. Also, if Septimius is the son of Abel, Louisa/Laura had an aunt named Louisa/Laura.
Amos, Lucy, Sarah and Laura are somewhat usual in this Staples line, however I haven't figured out why the preferences for George, Emily & Ellen.
Niemann gives them several unnamed children as well as another Laura. It is possible that Laura born in 1810 was actually Louisa (see Laura for explanation).
27 Nov 2018: Finally found proof that Septimius was George's father. George's New York City death record gives his father as "Septimous". [13]

Notes |
- If Amos is not a son of Septimius, perhaps he is a son of Abel's from his marriage to his second wife, Elizabeth? An Amos Staples from Hampton, Connecticut is administrator of Abel Staples's will in 1837.
