Notes |
- Jonathan Dyer was probably born in Barnstable, Mass. He removed to Truro with his parents when he was eight or nine years old. He was called Jonathan Dyer 2nd to distinguish him from the elder man of that name in town.
His first wife, Phebe died leaving with him a young son, Jonathan.
He was not baptized until a few months before death in a private ceremony with Rev. Mr. Upham.
He bought land in Truro in 1715.
He was a selectman in Truro for two years commencing in 1753.
He and his brother, William, Jr. were shoemakers by trade.
By the time he reached middle age, Jonathan must have accumulated considerable property and it does not appear that he ever left Truro though he probably intended to follow his brothers William, Jr. and Henry Dyer to Falmouth, Maine because on Aug.20,1750, he bought of Briant Morton, Gentleman of Falmouth for 500 pounds, "Old Tenor" his homestead or home farm on which I (Morton) now dwell containing thirty acres. This same farm Jonathan sold later on Sep.4,1769 to his son, Micah Dyer.
Jonathan Dyer evidently outlived his third wife since no mention is made of a setllement for her at his death. His son, Elisha was appointed the administrator of his father's estate. An inventory was taken in Oct.1773.
[The Morton-Rich Ancestry Line, Book 1, Descendants of Bryent Morton & Thankful Parker (Eastham, Barnstable, Gorham), by Frances Morton Demars, 1983-1987]
He lived all his life in Truro, Ma. His will written 10 Aug 1773, proved 10 Nov 1773 Truro Barnstable Co. Ma, mentions only son Elisha. [AWM]
