Notes |
- Noyes, Libby and Davis suggest that the Capt. Walter Neale of the Greenland section of Portsmouth beginning in 1653 may have been an abandoned illegitimate child of this Walter Neale. They note that his year of birth as calculated from a 1683 deposition is "coincident with the departure for England of the gallant artilleryman," and that the proposed relation "has been, in view of their names and connect[ion] with N.H., an obvious conclusion, and worldly experience teaches that where there are soldiers there are apt to be babies". The evidence allows the possibility and no more. [2]
