Humphrey Turner         was born about 1593 in
England. He signed a will on 28 Feb 1669. He died in 1673 in Scituate,
Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.  He was a tanner.  He was a
constable in Scituate,
Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.
HUMPHREY TURNER with his wife and two young sons came to New England in 1628
and at Plymouth a house lot was assigned to him in 1629. He was one of the first
Plymouth settlers to take up land at Scituate and removed there in 1633. He was
one of the founders of the church, January 1634/5 and (Savage says) one of the
earliest prominent men. He served as constable, surveyor of highways, grand and
traverse juryman, and was deputy many times to the Plymouth Colony General Court.
The first tannery in the colony was erected on his land.
His wife was Lydia Gamer (perhaps Garner) and she was not living when he made
his will the last day of February 1669. He died in 1673, aged about seventy-nine.
Their graves are in the old burying ground in Meeting House Lane but none of
the old stones remain. A modern monument has been erected, and another in Norwell
(North Scituate). His will was probated the 5th of June 1673 and named in it
are: Eldest son John, Young son John, sons Thomas, Joseph, Daniel and Nathaniel,
daughter Mary Parker, daughter Lydia Doughty and granddaughter Mary Doughty,
grandsons Jonathan, Joseph and Ezekiel (sons of eldest son), Humphrey (son of
Thomas), and granddaughter Abigail (daughter of Nathaniel). Young son John and
Nathaniel were named joint executors.
He was married to Lydia Gamer between 1615 and 1621 in Sandon, co. Essex,
England.    
Lydia Gamer     was born about 1602 in England. She was baptized on 18 May 1602 in Terling, co. Essex,
England. She died before 1673 in Scituate,
Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. She
was also known as Lydia Garner.
She was also known as Lydia Gamen. Children were:

Co. Essex, England. He took
the oath of freeman in 1643 in Scituate,
Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. He signed a will on 4 Mar 1695 in Scituate,
Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. He died between 4 Mar 1695 and 20 May 1697 in Scituate,
Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.
His
estate inventory was taken on 20 May 1697. He was a tanner.
